Student Teaching - Chatham, Ilinois' Glenwood Intermediate School (Ages 10-11): My full-semester experience was in the fifth grade classroom of Ms. Shelley Ebener. During my experince I spent the most time managing the classroom, teaching science, 6+1 writing, and novel-based reading. While I was able to spend the most time teaching science, reading, writing, and spelling, at various points throughout the semester I was responsible for all subject areas.
Block II Elementary Practicum - Teutopolis, Ilinois' Teutopolis Grade School (Ages 11-12): As part of my teacher education, I participated in a sixty-five hour practicum, teaching an entire unit on rocks, minerals, and soil formation as well as lessons on World War I and World War II. Under the guidance of Mr. Bernard Wesselman, I taught the entire sixth grade (~95 students), working to provide uniquely memorable experiences for the students.
Middle Level Practicum - Paris, Ilinois' Crestwood School (Ages 11-13): As part of my teacher education, I participated in a sixty hour practicum, giving standard lessons to language arts and physical science classes. Under the guidance of Ms. Marian Cash, I taught eight classes of students from grades six through eight with a focus on integrating all subject areas.
Computer Banc Adult Education (Ages 17+): In Summer 2008, I taught a class to adults from the Springfield community: Graphic Web Design.Computer Banc Summer Classes for Children (Ages 8-16): In Summer 2008, I taught two classes to any students who were interested: Television and Film Production and Building, Upgrading, and Reparing Computers. Block I Elementary Practicum - Mattoon, Ilinois' Arland D. Williams, Jr. Elementary School (Ages 6-10): As part of my teacher education, I spent about fifty hours working in a gifted program classroom at Williams Elementary School. Under the guidance of Ms. Michelle Englund, I worked primarily with four different classes of students from grades 1 through 5. In addition to giving several standard lessons, I served as a technical resource and aided in the preparation and execution of a program-wide play featuring roughly 80 students. Lessons included: the history and times of Michaelangelo, a bone construction lesson, and "Integrity" (A motivational story-driven presentation).
Springfield Urban League Summer Workshop (Ages 9-14): In Summer 2007, in cooperation with Springfield Urban League and Computer Banc, I taught a Slide Show Presentation workshop as part of a larger Urban League program.
Computer Banc Summer Classes for Children (Ages 8-17): In Summer 2007, I created and taught three project-based enrichment classes of eight students each. Classes were Computer Game Development Using Visual Basic, Television and Film Production, and Web Design & eBusiness. T.E.A.CH. (Teaching Environmental Awareness to CHildren; Ages 9-10): In my senior year of high school (2004-2005), I was fortunate enough to participate in a teaching program at my high school (Springfield Southeast High School). Every week for the entire year, I taught half-hour classes to two 5th grade classes in Springfield, Illinois. Lessons included: "Biodegradables" and "Jeoparty" (an environmental science review game).
